ISRAEL PALESTINE WAR: The Israel and Hamas war definitely appears to be a never ending war. The war between the two has no limit and is escalating and knows no end. On a daily basis news about the violence is airing from both sides. Civilians are being targeted and are being assaulted from both sides. Attacks on medical infrastructure have worsened the situation as the basic supplies related to medical care have been reduced. The Israeli Army did an army strike which killed around 14 Palestine’s including a 2 year old girl.
This was causing a lot of casualties which is not at all a positive sign. As we live in the error of Geo politics Israel and Palestine are not the only countries which are getting affected by this war but other neighboring countries are also getting involved like the Houthi Rebels of Yemen which are attacking Israeli ships in the Red Sea and the US is also attacking the Houthi Rebels. And Israeli attacks are in retaliation to the attacks done by the Hamas led group which attacked in the Gaza strip on 7th October 2023. And from that date the Israel Hamas war is going on. And this conflict is not a new affair in world politics as it has a long history about which we need to know before understanding the present situation.
History of Israel Palestine war
This war dates back to the year 1948 when The United Nations. To understand a world issue we need to focus on the geographical factors in the first place and in the case of the Arab and Israel war the geographical boundaries is one of the major factors which has led to such tensions and conflicts in the region.
Geographical conflict
In the year 1947 the British exit and the UN entry lead to a lot of disputes as the UN presented a partition plan that concentrated on two state solution for Israel and Arab in which 45%of the area was given to Palestine and 55% to Jews and the Jerusalem was under UN’s control and this place is of major concern. This decision was accepted by Israel happily but the Arabs were not much satisfied as they demanded for one state. After this the Israeli government announced their Independence on 14th may 1948 and founded the state of Israel.
As we know that the Arab were not happy with the decision taken so the Arab countries came in support of Palestine and these countries were Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan etc and announced the war on Israel on 15th may 1948. Even after the attack of all the countries which are mentioned above the Israeli government won and captured more area of the Palestine region and included it in its territory.
After one year of this War the Armistice agreement 1949 was signed in which the UN decision was sidelined and a green boundary was made to highlight the areas of Israel and Palestine. And the parts which were given to Palestine were divided into two territories the first one was in the Western side which shares its border with Jordan and was known as the West bank and the other was with Egypt which was known as the Gaza strip.
This was the major issue which was a part of the Palestine war. The Arabs got agitated as their land was taken from them and had to become refugees in their own land as the other Arab countries after the war did not allow any of these Arab citizens to settle in their own countries and therefore they had to live on their land as refused and their conditions worsened with time.
Political and military Reasons
After some years the Palestine felt the need of their and as they were not politically coordinated they formed Palestinian Liberation organization in 1964 but it was not that much impact full to get their land back but after some years in 1967 the Arab countries again attacked Israel but this time the whole region of Gaza and West Bank also came in the Israel government therefore controlling the whole region. And also left 2 million Palestine in Israel which were not aware about this situation as such and the Israeli government government was not also ready to give them the citizenship and the facilities so the Israeli government started searching the areas which have the population of Palestines which was in the west bank and the Gaza strip after identifying the areas and dividing them into sections.
The Israeli government placed military forces in those regions and also tried to settle the area so that the influence of Palestines could be reduced. And in the meanwhile other countries like Egypt and Jordan were also frustrated by all the situations and as their regions were being taken by the Israeli government as during the earlier War the goban heights of Syria were taken by these rally governments so Egypt and Jordan try to make peace with these rally government and therefore made peace with Israel.
After not getting any support from the neighboring Arab countries the PLO again activated and their four led its war against Israel. But the year 1987 had its other plans as the Palestine got agitated by the death of 4 palestinees in the jabalia refugee camp which was considered and Attack by these rally Government and therefore the common people living there got agitated and this led to the first Intifada in 1987 which continued till 1994.
This Intifada agitated the Palestinees who were living in the west bank also. In all this tension there was a Organization in the Gaga strip which was the Muslim Brotherhood after analyzing the whole situation the leader of this organization Sheikh Ahmed Yasmin supported the Palestine by forming a military wing of this Muslim Brotherhood organization which was known as the Harkat-al muqawama al Islamiya(HAMAS). And after this as the influence of HAMAS was increasing in the region the tensions created by PLO were also evident. So the Israel government started funding the HAMAS to counter PLO by using the divide and rule policy. But this backfired and later The HAMAS became a bone of Contention in the issue. Although after some time the PLO agreed and signed the Oslo agreement in which the west bank and the Gaga strip were to be settled by Palestine and would have internal elections on all these things to have a democratic system but as easy it seems while we are reading but it was not that easy as it seems to be.
After that the influence of Hamas at it was not happy with the decision which was taken through the agreement and therefore they had Hamas come in the limelight and started war against Israel and after some years in the year 2000 the second Intifada took place which continued from 2000 to 2005. And with the increased influence of Hamas in the Palestine region of Gaza strip .
Hamas started getting funds from the Arab countries and from that time they are attacking the Israeli territories and have escalated their issue. And in this whole situation the civilians from both sides are the one who are suffering the most. Jerusalem, is also a very important location in this whole conflict so let’s talk about it briefly.
Jerusalem
Jerusalem is the location which is of prime importance for the Jews ,Christians and the Arabs and therefore is one of the major reasons for conflict between Israel and Palestine. As it is important in religious terms for all the three communities. Although it is under the Israeli government currently.
Present scenario
On 7th October HAMAS attacked the Gaza strip in the Israeli occupied regions of the west bank and has escalated to another level. And the Israeli government has retaliated and this issue has not stopped till now and is absorbing other countries in the Conflict too. Like the Houthis, Rebels of Yemen are attacking the vessels in the Red Sea in support of the HAMAS group. And the US is also retaliating because of this issue. And therefore everyday we are hearing about the escalation of this war which is affecting the whole world in one way or another.
India’s stand
Traditionally India’s stand has always been in favor of Palestine as being part of the non alignment movement the Indian government has supported the Global south and every time the issue has come in front of the UN India has supported the Palestine cause but this situation is not the same as it used to be in the past. Now Israel is a very important trading partner of India and India has good relations with it, and all the casualties caused by the Hamas group have turned the side of India towards the Israelites. And as most of the countries are providing a solution of two states, India’s also supporting the same and is asking for a productive and peaceful resolution to the problem as it is the need of the hour.
Conclusion
The Israel and Palestine war seems to be a never ending war as both the areas are not able to come at a conclusion and in all this situation the civilians are the one who are getting the most affected as many are getting killed and injured therefore a solution needs to be taken to end this and most of the countries are agreeing on the two States solution.
